Methodology

To us…..Football. Is. Life. We live and breath it.

We have our own beliefs about how Football should be played, who our favourite players are, and what we love to see when watching a game. But that’s more our Philosophy on Football.

Our mission at Generation Football is to develop Football players, as such, we have to take a much more pragmatic approach with our Methodology.

We focus on developing the individual player. It’s our job to make sure our players will be ready for any situation. We believe there are some fundamental qualities that players must master to ensure they can progress as far as they can in the modern game.

Technically, our emphasis is on working a players touch and ability to manipulate themselves and the ball in tight areas.

Tactically, our training is designed to develop players scanning ability, decision making, and providing as much as insight into triggers and consequences as possible.

Physically, we believe the most important capacity of a modern day player is Agility; the ability to rapidly accelerate, decelerate, change direction and change velocity, based on various and changing stimulus.

What do we know about the modern Football player, and the game as a whole?

On average, a player will receive the ball 48 times during a 90 minute game. They will average 71 touches during that game. Knowing this, we need to make sure that every touch you take a player, is an effective one. Do you have a master touch?

Players also average 38 passes during a game. Again, you need to make sure that every pass is not only accurate, but the correct decision was made as well - was you able to read the picture of the game and make the correct pass?

Players will complete 13km total distance, with 4km of that being performed as a walk, 6km as a medium paced jog, 2km as a high-intensity run, and 1km as a sprint. These are then broken down into different time and length domains. Also, change-of-direction occurs every 19 seconds during the game. Are you fast enough to make effective runs? Are you agile enough to cover space? Are you quick enough to navigate tight areas?

Knowing this data, we can programme our training in an intelligent and rational manner. Our Assessment sessions and individual drills can be accurately recorded, and over time, we can monitor a players development in a purely objective light.

We believe the foundation of development is in the individual, tangible and defined capacities. With our state-of-the-art technology, we can now accurately analyse these, plan how you can improve, and start adding the more subjective elements.
